How to Turn Blog Posts into Social Media Content
Happy New Year! It’s 2025 - how did that happen? If you’re anything like me, you’re still writing 2024 on everything and wondering where the last 12 months disappeared to. January is here, and it’s that time of year when we’re full of big plans, big goals, and plenty of enthusiasm. But let’s be realistic—posting six times a week and doubling your audience overnight? That’s a recipe for burnout, not success.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. If you’ve already put in the effort to write a blog post, you can turn it into so much social media content. Less effort, more results — that’s the vibe for 2025. Let’s talk about exactly how you can repurpose your blog posts and make them work harder for you.
Why Repurpose Blog Posts?
Blogging takes time and effort. You sit down, stare at a blank screen, and pray for inspiration while your tea goes cold. You finally hit publish and feel like you’ve conquered Everest… only to realise that most of your audience hasn’t even read it yet.
But that blog post? It’s pure gold. It’s packed with tips, stories, and insights that your audience needs. Instead of letting it gather dust on your website, break it down into smaller, snackable pieces for social media. Think of it like a roast dinner. You don’t just eat the roast chicken on Sunday and throw away the leftovers, do you? No! You make sandwiches on Monday, curry on Tuesday, and soup by Wednesday. That’s how you squeeze every bit of value out of that meal — and it’s the same with your blog posts.
Here’s how you do it.
1. Pull Out the Key Points
Start with content surgery: break your blog into smaller takeaways. What are the main points or tips? What do you want people to learn from it?
For example, if your blog post is titled 5 Ways to keep your houseplants alive, each tip could become its own post:
Day 1: Tip 1—“Don’t overwater your plants. Let the soil dry out slightly before you reach for the watering can.”
Day 2: Tip 2—“Dust your plant’s leaves to help them breathe better and soak up more sunlight.”
Day 3: Share a fun story about your own plant mishap (we’ve all been there!).
Write a snappy caption around each key point and end with a simple call-to-action (CTA) like “Save this tip for later!” or “Tag a friend who needs to hear this!”
2. Create Carousels or Graphics
If your blog post is packed with useful steps or tips, carousels are your best friend. Carousels let you break down information into swipeable, easy-to-read slides — and they’re super shareable by your audience, leading to more engagement!
For example:
Slide 1: Title: 5 ways to keep your houseplants alive
Slide 2: Tip 1: Don’t overwater.
Slide 3: Tip 2: Give them the right amount of sunlight.
Slide 4: Tip 3: Dust their leaves.
Slide 5: Tip 4: Choose pots with proper drainage.
Slide 6: Tip 5: Talk to your plants… it can’t hurt, right?
Slide 7: CTA: Follow for more tips and save this post for later!
Easy, visual, and engaging.
3. Share Snippets on Stories
Stories are where you can relax, be conversational, and talk to your audience. Share quick snippets from your blog post in Stories — it’s a perfect way to give value without overthinking it.
Here’s an example:
“Hands up if you’ve ever killed a houseplant! 😂 I’ve got a blog post with 5 simple tips to stop you from being a plant murderer. Here’s tip number one: don’t overwater! It’s like tea… you wouldn’t drink five cups in a row without a break, right? Give your plants a chance to breathe. Want the other four tips? Head to the blog — the link’s right here!”
Pro tip - Stories are the only place on Instagram where links are live and will actually work - make use of that feature!
Stories keep things light, personal, and fun.
4. Turn It Into Reels or Videos
If you’re feeling brave (or fancy), turn your blog post into a short video or Reel. And before you panic, it doesn’t have to be polished or perfect. People love real, relatable videos.
Here are two simple ideas:
Film yourself sharing 3 tips from the blog post.
Create a time-lapse of you doing something related to the post (like repotting a plant) and add text overlays with the tips.
Remember: people love to see you, not just your content. Be yourself, share your knowledge, and don’t worry about being awkward — it makes you relatable!
Work Smarter, Not Harder
Repurposing your blog posts isn’t cheating — it’s smart marketing. You’ve already done the hard work of creating something valuable, so let it shine across your platforms.
Here’s the recap:
Pull out the key points and turn them into individual posts.
Create carousels or graphics.
Share snippets on Stories.
Turn your tips into videos or Reels.
Less effort, more results. That’s how you make content work for you.
