How to repurpose the content you already have (without losing your mind)
Content creation can feel like running on a hamster wheel - always scrambling to create fresh, new posts, but never really getting off that exhausting cycle. If you’ve ever thought, “I swear I just posted something yesterday!” then this blog post is for you.
Here’s the good news: You don’t have to constantly create new content. You can work smarter by repurposing the content you’ve already got. Think of it as taking one good meal and turning it into several delicious dishes. You’re about to master the art of content leftovers, but in a really tasty way.
Turn blogs into social media snippets
You’ve written a fantastic blog - maybe even something like this one. Don’t let it sit in the archives collecting dust! Break it down into smaller pieces that can be used for social media.
Instagram carousels: Take your main points and turn them into a swipeable carousel. A blog with “5 ways to stay consistent on social media” could easily become a five-slide carousel.
Single quotes for posts: Pull out punchy quotes or insights from your blog and turn them into simple image posts. Add a visual and - boom! - you’ve got an engaging post that’s easy to share.
Reels and stories: Use the highlights of your blog as the script for a Reel or Instagram Story. Summarise the key points in a quick, face-to-camera video. Trust me, this is way more engaging than a standard text post!
Breathe new life into reels and videos
That Reel you made six months ago that got decent engagement? It can work again!
Turn video clips into quotes: Pull a key moment from your video, something that resonated, and turn it into a visual post or a tweet-like graphic. Short, impactful quotes are perfect for this.
Use it in stories: Reshare your old Reels or clips in stories. It gives them a second chance to be seen by a wider audience and doesn’t let great content go to waste.
Transform newsletters into blog posts (or vice versa!)
Your newsletters are probably packed with value, and guess what? They can easily be turned into blogs, giving your website a boost.
Newsletter to blog: Take an informative newsletter, expand a few points, and voila! You’ve got a blog post. Add some extra context and maybe a few tips, and you’ve just doubled your content value.
Blog to newsletter: Similarly, if you’ve got a great blog post, you can simplify it into newsletter format. Create a “best of the blog” feature, share snippets, and link back to the full post for more reads.
Recycle old posts into updated content
Got an old post that did well? Bring it back to life with a fresh spin!
“Then vs. now” approach: If you posted something a year ago, share it again, but update it. Add new insights, changes, or lessons learned. This approach not only gives new value but shows your audience your growth.
Seasonal content: Got posts that are perfect for certain times of the year? Don't reinvent the wheel - just tweak and repost! That "New Year, new goals" content is perfect again in January.
B-roll is your secret weapon
We all love a bit of behind-the-scenes action, and the great news is - B-roll is a goldmine for repurposing!
Create a Reel from behind-the-scenes footage: Whether it’s packing orders, brainstorming sessions, or a day in your life, B-roll can be the base for multiple types of content.
Use clips as filler visuals: Use B-roll as background while you talk about tips, share your opinions, or answer FAQs. It’s engaging without having to create entirely new visuals.
Make repurposing your content super simple
Repurposing content is all about making life easier. Imagine if instead of creating entirely new content, you spent an hour turning a blog post into five different pieces of content across your platforms. Social media isn’t meant to be stressful. It’s meant to be a fun way to connect with your audience. The more you repurpose, the more cohesive and relaxed your approach will become.
You’re not just making more content - you’re giving your audience multiple chances to connect with what you’re saying.
